The Blue Tag: LAG, or Whatever. Sometimes, It’s OK.

There are days you sit at the online tables and you know, right away, who you’re dealing with. That’s what the tags are for. Red for danger. Orange for tilt machines. Yellow for nits. A couple greens for players who actually know what they’re doing. And then — there’s the blue tag.

The Blue Tag: The LAG

The Loose Aggressive (LAG). The wild card. The one who opens with 10-4 suited under the gun, 3-bets you with queen-rag, and c-bets everything. But here’s the twist: sometimes, that’s OK.

They’re Unpredictable, But Alive

Unlike the nits hiding behind yellow tags, the blue tag LAG is in there mixing it up. Bluffing. Barreling. Building pots. They’re not boring. They’re not robotic. They’re chaos — and that makes poker fun again.

Most of Them Are Just Donkeys in Disguise

Yeah, don’t get too romantic. A lot of blue tags aren’t good. They’re just loose. Aggressive. And clueless. They jam garbage, run headfirst into monsters, and burn stacks like napkins. Tag them blue, exploit them hard.

But Then There’s the Real LAGs

The skilled ones. Rare. Beautiful. Dangerous. They’ll put you in spots you hate. They’ll float light, raise your c-bet, shove on scary boards. And when they show up with the nuts — you’ll feel like you got hustled.

The Blue Tag Is a Warning… or a Compliment

For me, blue means “watch out.” Not red-alert dangerous — that’s the red tag. Not passive — that’s orange or yellow. Blue means: this one plays. And whether they’re a maniac or a genius, they’re going to make you work.

Compare the Others:

  • Red: Dangerous regulars. Handle with care. Or avoid entirely.
  • Orange: Tilt-prone. Wild when losing. Easy to trap when steaming.
  • Yellow: Tight as a drum. Won’t bet without the nuts. Easy to steal from.
  • Green (1): Solid player. Respectable. Not perfect, but rarely punts.
  • Green (2): Friend, or table buddy. Easy-going, chatty, rarely plays back hard.

Conclusion

So yeah, the blue tag is tricky. It could mean danger, it could mean dinner. But at least it means something’s happening. And after a long session of robotic folds and tanking nits, I’ll take that any day.

So here’s to the blue tag. Sometimes annoying. Sometimes brilliant. But never boring.
